House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi is endorsing State Assemblyman Tony Thurmond for California State Superintendent of Public Instruction. Leader Pelosi said:
“At a time when President Trump and Education Secretary Betsy DeVos threaten the quality of our public schools, Tony Thurmond is the champion California students need. Tony has repeatedly demonstrated his dedication to students by fighting to shift money from the criminal justice system to schools, ensuring students in foster care are financially able to attend college, and working to reduce California’s teacher shortage by advocating for teacher housing. I am confident he will continue this outstanding leadership as State Superintendent of Public Instruction.”
“I’m grateful for the endorsement of House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, who believes deeply in the fundamental right of every child to receive a world-class public education. I look forward to working with Leader Pelosi to protect funding for our California public schools and push back against President Trump and Secretary DeVos’s anti-public education agenda.”
Thurmond is also endorsed by the California Democratic Party, Senator Kamala Harris, and over a dozen members of California’s Democratic Congressional delegation.
